Bucharest / Oradea, September 2025
SOFMEDICA, a leading provider of innovative healthcare technologies in Southeast Europe, proudly announces the successful integration of the da Vinci X robotic-assisted surgery system at Oradea County Emergency Clinical Hospital. This represents a major milestone in Romania’s journey toward modernizing public healthcare, as Oradea becomes the fourth public hospital in the country to implement da Vinci ™ robotic surgery.
This strategic development comes at a time when Romania is actively pursuing healthcare modernization and reform. The installation of the da Vinci system in a regional hub like Oradea reflects both the growing momentum for equitable access to cutting-edge care and the urgent need to institutionalize robotic surgery through public reimbursement mechanisms to expedite broadened access to as many Romanian patients as possible, regardless of location or socioeconomic status. To date, there are 19 da Vinci robotic surgery programs operating in the private sector and only 4 implemented in public hospitals: County Emergency Hospital Timișoara, the Regional Oncology Institute (IRO) Iași, County Emergency Hospital Bistrița, and now County Emergency Hospital Oradea.
“At SOFMEDICA, we see each new program not as an endpoint, but as a new beginning. The launch in Oradea is a powerful example of how technology, vision, and public commitment come together to change lives. It is also a vital step forward in democratizing robotic surgery in Romania, something we believe should no longer be a privilege, but a standard.” – Daniela Fistis, Commercial Manager, SOFMEDICA Romania
With a multidisciplinary program in urology and general surgery, the adoption of the da Vinci system at Oradea Emergency Hospital brings transformative benefits to both patients and the medical community. Patients experience minimally invasive procedures that lead to fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery, crucial in complex oncological cases, while medical teams gain enhanced precision, improved ergonomics, and access to advanced training.
“Robotic surgery with the da Vinci system redefines standards of precision in oncologic urology. It increases tumor excision accuracy and enhances post-operative recovery. But to truly serve patients, it must be integrated into high-expertise teams that understand its full potential.” – Dr. Bogdan Feciche, Urologist, Oradea Emergency Hospital
“The arrival of robotic surgery in our hospital is not just a technological leap — it’s a long-term investment in the people of Bihor County. This program elevates our local standards and opens the door for broader access to innovation in the public healthcare sector.” – Dr. Dan Dejeu, Chief of General Surgery, Oradea Emergency Hospital
On a national level, this investment signals a shift toward innovation-driven care in Romania’s public health system, raising surgical standards, improving efficiency, and helping to retain and even repatriate skilled Romanian doctors working abroad, ultimately strengthening the country’s ability to deliver world-class care within its borders.
The launch in Oradea adds critical mass to Romania’s growing network of public robotic surgery programs. With installations now present in four public hospitals, the momentum for a coherent, nationwide robotic surgery strategy is undeniable.
