“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly…”
Let us share our story about a recent difficult situation we faced during a public procurement procedure aiming to provide our life saving technologies to the patients in Romania: What was happening was that during a tender procedure, we faced an unloyal competitor who chose to use unethical methods in order to win the contract. And late one evening, as one of our Executives was making his way out of the office, he noticed the flicker of a light in one of the otherwise empty offices. One of the Team Members in our Tender Department was searching for grounded reasons to prove that what we were suspecting was actually true.
Our ethics radar had started to give us signal and we followed our instinct. Even though, the signs were there, we were not 100% certain of our assumption. So the Executive decided to make a bet with the Tender Department: that we would prevail over our competitor and set the situation right. The stake: a bottle of Coke.
And because the stake was so high, we decided to challenge our limits and prove that the respective competitor was displaying an unethical behavior. Long story short, we managed to prove that the competitor was indeed unloyal and they were disqualified from the procedure. And since we won the „battle”, our Executive won the bottle of Coke, but decided to level the score by offering something for the victory, as seen in the picture below.
All in all, considering that we activate in the medical technology market and have the patients’ life in our hands, we consider that it is crucial that the provider of such solutions should act based on integrity and have an ethical conduct.
Consequently, we believe in the words of Denis Waitley that “Losers make promises they often break. Winners make commitments they always keep.”
