SofMedica Group Advisory Board Interview - Dr. Liviu Klein

  1. What was the reason behind your accepting to become part of the SofMedica Group Advisory BoD?

The main reason to become a member of the advisory board is that SofMedica’s mission resonates with me. As a physician, I am delighted to be advising a company that provides the most innovative medical technologies and trains and supports the medical professionals to use them in order to deliver the best and friendliest patient care.

  1. How do you see the development of SofMedica Group in the next five or ten years?

In the next 5-10 years. SofMedica will be a major player in the healthcare industry in Central and South-East Europe and will be setting the standard to the way healthcare should be delivered.

  1. In your view, what is the aspect that would make the value proposition of SofMedica Group unique in the region we like to call “New Europe” (Central and South-East Europe)?

The ability to provide end to end solutions for healthcare delivery for both healthcare providers and patients will make SofMedica’s value proposition unique in the region.

  1. What is the one thing in your professional business life so far that makes you most proud?

I am most proud of one of my recent accomplishments, where we were able to unify advanced heart disease care under one roof and provide complete care for patients at risk for or suffering from heart failure.

  1. Could you please describe, in just 5 words, the values you believe an organization should have as guidelines for successful development during the next decade?

SofMedica Group Advisory Board Interview - Richard Lenz

  1. What was the reason behind your accepting to become part of the SofMedica Group Advisory BoD?

There are three main reasons which made me accept to become part of the SofMedica Group Advisory BoD, the first of them being that this way I got to join one of the leading MedTech and Healthcare services operator in CEE. The second one is that because it allowed me to gain insight into the SofMedica “ecosystem”, including understanding high-end minimal invasive surgical technologies, how to operate a patient-centered healthcare services provider like Emerald, and what the development of healthcare dedicated real estate means through MedCity. And last, but not least, it provides the opportunity to meet experienced entrepreneurs and medical directors.

  1. How do you see the development of SofMedica Group in the next five or ten years?

I believe that SofMedica Group is well-prepared and will soon see growth in the key markets, by pursuing the right goals on the forefront of best healthcare services. The development will also be supported by the ability to attract best talent, equipped with outstanding managerial talent

  1. In your view, what is the aspect that would make the value proposition of SofMedica Group unique in the region we like to call “New Europe” (Central – Southeastern Europe)?

I would say that leading the digitalization of MedTech distribution and healthcare services in SEE, along with advancing healthcare insurance to cover latest robotic-assisted interventions, and the deepening of the ecosystem to cover pre- to post-OR services would definitely set apart the value proposition of SofMedica Group.

  1. What is the one thing in your professional business life so far that makes you most proud?

There are several things that make me proud in my professional business life, I could not name just one, but the top three are building a team and working with great managerial talent; pursuing buy & build strategies to establish true “category champions”, and, of course, following high values and living true entrepreneurship.

  1. Could you please describe, in just 5 words, the values you believe an organization should have as guidelines for successful development during the next decade?

I will need more than 5 words here, and I will put it like this: first of all, honest, loyal and trust-based collaboration and communication; then pursuing a transformational management style to get the best out of everyone; and last establishing an open learning environment and allowing a certain margin of error for every team member.

Catherine Sofianou

Catherine Sofianou is the President of the SofMedica group of companies, an acknowledged high-end healthcare technologies & services provider in Central and Southeastern Europe with major head offices in Athens – Greece and Bucharest – Romania. She is a mother of two and besides Greek, Catherine Sofianou speaks English, French, German as well as the Arab language.

She was born in Cairo Egypt as the youngest member of a Greek family with origins from the coasts of Smyrna (nowadays Turkish Izmir). She moved to Greece in 1963 where she got started her 40-year international business by putting up together with her husband Pandelis an Athens-based trading company that started up as an exclusive importer of high-end products from Western Europe to Greece and Northern Africa.

In the early ‘90s, Catherine Sofianou saw the opportunity in the healthcare field in Southeastern Europe and had the courage to seize it: she incorporated in 1994 in Bucharest – Romania a company specialized in high-end medical technologies from the United States which nowadays takes pride in having first introduced several innovative therapies in the whole region such as the Artificial Heart and the Robotically Assisted Minimal Invasive Surgery.

Today Catherine Sofianou is splitting her time between Bucharest and Athens being head of the family-owned group of companies occupying more than 100 healthcare professionals based in 5 different countries (Romania, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria & Cyprus). Still she finds the time and the enthusiasm to contribute to the activity of a number of social not-for-profit organizations.

 2. How do you see the development of SofMedica Group in the next five or ten years?

You know, I firmly believed in the bright future of SofMedica twenty seven years ago when market conditions were very harsh in Romania. And that’s why I had the courage to help a country that had so many healthcare-related needs at that time. So now, seeing the new members of the Advisory Board, but also the management of SofMedica, I have no doubt that under the inspired guidance of George Sofianos the group will take off very quickly.

 3. In your view, what is the aspect that would make the value proposition of SofMedica Group unique in the region we like to call “New Europe” (Central – Southeastern Europe)?

I would say that this is a perfect combination between state-of-the-art technology, excellent Team Members, and thorough knowledge of the region where we have been operating for twenty seven years. And with great surprise and joy we see its daily progress to which we aspire to contribute.
