For the first time in the Romanian private healthcare system, a team of physicians from Clinicco Hospital in Brasov, comprised of interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and anaesthesiologists have performed the first endovascular aneurysm repair with the only revolutionary system which seals the aneurysmal sack.
The procedure was completed without complications, the 61-year-old patient being scheduled to be released from hospital in two days.
Dr Mihai Ursu, interventional cardiologist, Head of the Interventional Cardiology Unit:
“The Nellix Endoprosthesis has a completely new design and concept, which can treat more patients, can make planning and material selection much easier and can reduce secondary interventions by sealing the aneurysmal sac with a biocompatible polymer. From a technical point of view, by a minimally invasive approach, through interventional techniques, two balloon expandable stent grafts with two attached endobags are introduced at the location of the aneurysm. The polymer is injected into the endobags, which occupies and seals the entire aneurysm, re-establishing a normal blood flow (excluding the aneurysm) to the inferior limbs.”
